Important Notice:

The Western Council of Arts in Education Associations, operating as The ARTS IN EDUCATION COUNCIL OF B.C. has decided to cease operating as a Society.

At the Extraordinary Meeting held on January 13, 2011, the members present approved a Motion to request the Registrar of Companies to strike the Society off the Register. It is with regret that the Society has taken this action, but difficulties in finding the volunteer assistance needed to keep the Society operating, and carry out meaningful programs over the past several years have made this action necessary.

The remaining assets of the Society have been distributed to ArtStarts in Schools, to comprise a special "Arts in Education Council of B.C. Fund", which will be held within a restricted fund of The Art Starts in Schools Society.

ArtStarts is a non-profit provincial organization which provides innovative arts programs for young people, practical resources for teachers and artists, and leadership in advocacy for arts education. Small grants or awards from this fund will be used to pay the fees of teachers, artists or other individuals presenting workshops, clinics or seminars designed to increase the appreciation of the arts and professional development of teachers in B.C. schools.

We are pleased that the work of the Council will continue through this granting program, during the life of the fund, and hope that all those committed to the arts in education will support our decision.
