YoungStarters is a free arts mentorship program that invites young people to take the lead in arts based community projects. Apply by July 10, 2015 to take part in the Summer 2015 program.
This year, young people between the ages of 13-18 who are currently in or have been in the foster care system are invited to participate in the YoungStarters program.
YoungStarters will build valuable skills through the guidance of mentors, gain relevant experiences through collaborative workshops, and establish a network of peers and members of the art community, while also introducing new narratives into the fold. Working on projects from ideation to planning to execution through an arts based approach while utilizing different mediums, the aim is to experience the creative process as each project evolves.
This is also an opportunity for our community to gain clearer perspectives of the reality of the foster care system. Through the YoungStarters' projects, new stories can enter the public discourse in hopes of creating thoughtful and informed conversations about the foster care system in our province.
