Arts Champion Awards Celebrate Leaders in BC Arts Community

Congratulations to the winners of this year's Arts Champion Awards!

ArtsBC and ArtStarts in Schools have announced the recipients of this year’s Arts Champion Awards, honouring individuals and organizations actively working to enhance arts and culture in their communities. Kathy Ramsey of Gabriola Island, Lynne Hossay of Vernon, and Trudy Van Dop of New Westminster received the Arts Champion in Community Award, and the Vancouver Biennale was given the Arts Champion in Education Award.

Last night we hosted our Volunteer Appreciation event in celebration of National Volunteer Week.

ArtStarts relies on the amazing, quality work that our volunteers generously provide. Since 2006, we’ve been lucky enough to have been granted 6,607 hours of volunteer time! We've been shown a HUGE amount of dedication and generosity, and we couldn’t be more thankful.

We recently had the chance to visit Second Street community school in Burnaby where the entire school of over 300 students has been working for the past three months with local artists Anna Talbot and Mona Lochan and the City of Burnaby’s Community Arts Development Coordinator, Shelley Twist to create a series of banners that explore the theme of Celebrating our Community.

We are seeking enthusiastic and hard-working volunteers to help us put on our annual Showcase. ArtStarts in Schools will be hosting a 2-day conference on March 1st and 2nd, featuring performances by over 30 artists and groups. We are looking for students or professionals with theatre production experience or stage craft training (Additional training will be provided.)
