Volunteer at the ArtStarts Showcase

We are seeking enthusiastic and hard-working volunteers to help us put on our annual Showcase. ArtStarts in Schools will be hosting a 2-day conference on March 1st and 2nd, featuring performances by over 30 artists and groups. We are looking for students or professionals with theatre production experience or stage craft training (Additional training will be provided.)

Our volunteer Edward Hopkins preparing the material for the 2012 ArtStarts Staff Vissioning Retreat.

Shifts range between 5 hours (min.) to full-day opportunities. All volunteers will be provided with a complimentary lunch and invited to enjoy our cocktail reception. 

This is a great opportunity to gain experience working in theatre and stage production, as well as to network with performing artists from British Columbia and Western Canada. Here is sample of some off the tasks we'll need help with: 

Wednesday February 29th 9:00 am to 5:00 pm:

  • Assist with transporting gear between the ArtStarts office and the Orpheum Annex.
  • Set-up performance space, backstage area and delegate viewing area.
  • Provide support to Stage Manager and crew.

Thursday March 1st 8:00 am to 5:00 pm:

  • Load-in performers and assist with pre-staging.
  • Help performers with props and mics.
  • Provide support to Stage Manager.
  • Load-in performers and assist with pre-staging.
  • Help performers with props and mics.
  • Provide support to Stage Manager.
  • Pack up stage equipment.
  • Clean up backstage area.

Friday March 2nd 8:00 am to 7:00pm: 

  • Load-in performers and assist with pre-staging.
  • Help performers with props and mics.
  • Provide support to Stage Manager.
  • Pack up stage equipment.
  • Clean up backstage area.
  • Assist with delegate and performer sign-in.
  • Provide catering assistance, coffee and tea service and snack replenishment.
  • Provide support to Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Help set-up reception area.
  • End of day clean-up.
  • Serve reception cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
  • Assist with delegate and performer sign-in.
