Where Did Art Start For You? - Della Burford, Visual Artist

In the days leading up to GivingTuesday on December 2, 2014, we are sharing stories from artists in the ArtStarts community. We asked them, "Where did art start for you?" It's a question that asks us to reflect on our own lives in order to see where along our journey our passion for the arts was sparked.

What is GivingTuesday?

GivingTuesday is a movement for giving and volunteering that takes place this year on December 2, 2014. Taking place each year right after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday is proof that the holiday season can be about both giving and giving back. GivingTuesday is the perfect time for the world to come together and show how powerful humanity can be when we unite to give on one day.

Where did art start for you?

In contemplating this the first thing that came to my mind was ENCOURAGEMENT and how it can come from many places. For me it was mostly from my mother who was an artist, but also from other family, and friends. Some teachers and other artists also gave encouragement.

I next felt that Art starts with IMAGINATION. In tapping into ones creative self all is possible.

I realized this is not only something I have but also have encouraged other to do in doing programs around my Journey to Dodoland and even in the story of the eight angels of healing Miracle Galaxy.

My next intuitive feeling was DREAMS. I have worked at remembering my dreams for decades and have encourage others to record the creative ones and honor by sharing with others. I continue to do this with the publication of my book Dream Wheels.

My next thought was NATURE which has been such a muse for my art. So much so that I wrote a book about loving and protecting the earth called Magical Earth Secrets. Many people have expressed their love for the earth and thought of eco project to be part of the “making a difference” in the world.

But in the end realized it all stemmed from LOVE ... love for IMAGINATION , DREAMS, and NATURE.

So this is where is started for me and I wish for you to find what you love in life so you can also also express it in art.
