Elizabeth Shefrin

Artist/Group Profile: Sima Elizabeth Shefrin is a fabric artist who loves creating artwork with diverse communities. Whether she is collaborating with children and adults to sew welcoming community quilts in Kerrisdale, working internationally to create the Middle East Peace Quilt, or working on self-portrait projects in classrooms and libraries around Vancouver, she makes sure that her workshops are lots of fun. She is the illustrator of the multi-prize nominated children’s picture book, “Abby’s Birds”, written by Ellen Schwartz and published by Tradewind. She works with students creating murals in which they depict themselves meeting the characters in Abby's Birds.

School Program/Presentation: Elizabeth works with all ages to create unique, memorable quilts and banners. Her specialties include drawing out participants' stories through paper and fabric, creating group art projects to illustrate social history or literature, (ie: group murals of Mid Summer Night’s Dream) and using art to facilitate cross-cultural understanding. She is also offering workshops in schools and libraries, based on the illustrations from “Abby’s Birds.”
