We're hiring: Director of Finance & Operations

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a strategic professional who leads with initiative and integrity. This position is responsible for providing leadership and active management in the areas of accounting, finance and operations. We are currently in the process of a full systems overhaul to ensure that we are a data driven organization that leverages technology and enables staff to activate their full human potential. This position plays a key role in shaping the way our systems are designed and integrate across program areas to promote efficiency and effectiveness. This position is part of the Leadership Team and reports to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of ArtStarts’ strategic plan
  • Provide financial and strategic analysis to support organizational decision making
  • Lead annual budgeting and planning process in consultation with the ED (approx $3 mil budget)
  • Oversee annual audit and the preparation of financial statements
  • Prepare clear, concise and effective financial reports for the ED and Finance Committee
  • Provide data to team members to enable tracking and reporting against strategic initiatives and overall performance
  • Support program staff to prepare and implement program budgets
  • Recommend and implement procedures and processes to ensure improved internal controls and to mitigate risk
  • Identify and develop ongoing strategies to generate operating effectiveness, process efficiency, and exceptional customer service standards
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and reconciliation
  • Manage the financial reporting requirements for public and private funders
  • Manage receipting for charitable donations
  • Manage payroll and benefits administration
  • Participate on the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Ensure timely and accurate compliance reporting and statutory requirements are met
  • Oversee management policies and procedures with a focus on recruitment, training, performance evaluation, compensation and benefits
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with third party service or software providers
  • Manage part-time Bookkeeper
  • Manage full-time Administrative Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role you will have:

  • CPA designation or other relevant qualification
  • 4 - 5 years experience in an accounting, finance and operations capacity
  • Experience with accounting principles and practices specific to the charitable sector
  • Strong financial acuity, analytical skills, and keen attention to detail
  • Ability to be a systems thinker and able to see patterns not problems
  • Ability to take initiative and persist in advancing organizational efficiencies
  • Advanced tech and admin skills
  • A personal commitment to continuous learning and skill development
  • Ability to think long term, forecast challenges, and be proactive to mitigate risk
  • Comfort engaging in productive, unfiltered conflict around important issues
  • Ability to hold yourself and your peers accountable
  • A personal connection to ArtStarts’ mission and vision and desire to create social change

REMUNERATION

This is a regular full-time position with a Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm schedule. The salary range is $65,000 – $75,000, based on experience. Additional benefits include three weeks of vacation, a professional development allowance, and extended health and dental benefits.
