ArtStarts is proud to present Drag Story Hour: a FREE online drag show for families!

The art of drag involves a creative combination of performance styles, including theatre, dance, music, humour, and in this case, storytelling with our favourite children’s books. 

Join us on the ArtStarts Facebook page at 11am on July 25 for Drag Story Hour with Skim & Shay, a performance that promises to be a delight for all ages!

About Skim & Shay 

Skim is a gender bender extraordinaire, as they identify as both Drag Queen and Drag King! They started their drag in South Korea, and has since performed in Vietnam, Victoria, Edmonton, as well as here, in Vancouver. Skim is no stranger to ArtStarts, as they had an artist residency in 2019, and led a Youth Drag Series Workshop in 2020. Skim is an active member of the House of Rice and constantly strives to deconstruct gender in entertaining ways.

Mother of the House of Rice, an all-Asian drag family in Vancouver, Shay has led an incredible drag career performing locally and internationally, while strongly advocating for queer Asian visibility in the community. Featured in three documentaries, the House Of Rice is an absolutely stunning and creative family chock-full of the most amazing talent which leaves no question as to why this queen is the Matriarch. Their drag is visually stunning and leaves you with such a magical feeling. Shay is also the founder and co-producer of Ricecake, an amazing queer and Asian dance party in Vancouver.
