We are pleased to announce that ArtStarts team member, Juliana Bedoya has taken on the role of Residencies and Exhibitions Manager. Juliana has been working as ArtStarts' Program Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator since 2011, and is thrilled to take on new challenges.
In her own words:
"I can't be happier to take on this new role and manage one of the ArtStarts programs that really resonates with my personal commitment as a practicing community artist and arts advocate. Since Keiko was managing the program, I had the opportunity to have a close look at the amazing residency projects that artists, educators and students where developing together, and how some of them completed their full cycle as they were exhibited in our gallery space. It has been incredibly inspiring to see this process unfold while participating in the installation of the last 3 exhibitions. I am keen on continuing this momentum by serving a broader community of artists, educators and young people and to creatively provide the best resources available for them, letting the spark of the arts transform their lives and be contagious in their own communities."
Juliana is taking over the position from Keiko Lee-Hem, who is beginning a new chapter of her life in Nelson, BC. Keiko will be missed by all her friends in the office, but we couldn't be happier for her as she takes on new adventures.
With a keen interest in community art projects that effect social change, Juliana is a talented artist, working in sculpture, performance, installation and moss graffiti. She is also an experienced art educator, having led many artist residencies, including her current residency projects at the Renfrew Community Centre and Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre.
In her new role at ArtStarts, Juliana will be managing the Artists in the Classroom program and the ArtStarts Gallery. We are excited to see these programs continue to evolve with Juliana's dedication, thoughtfulness and boundless creativity.
