Volunteers are an important part of life at ArtStarts. We could not accomplish what we do without the support, dedication, enthusiasm, skills and talents of our volunteers.

Special Events and Exhibition Assistants

Special Events and Exhibition Assistants

These volunteer positions are perfect for those limited with time, but unlimited passion. Work with us for short periods of time to assist with special events and projects, such as exhibition openings, strikes and installations, and our annual Showcase.

Gallery Assistants

Gallery Assistants

Gallery Assistants commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week over an 8 to 12 week period (or longer if you prefer). This position will allow you to get a sense of how a non-profit arts organization ticks. Your main tasks will be to greet visitors from our sunny reception desk, answer questions in person and on the phone, and assist with daily administrative work. You are given orientation, training and an overview of the gallery operations.

Knowledge Philanthropists

Knowledge Philanthropists

What is a Knowledge Philanthropist? This term, coined by Omar Ladak, refers to someone who volunteers primarily with their head, by contributing what they know. At ArtStarts, we engage Knowledge Philanthropists as project-based volunteers who contribute their specialized, professional skills. There are opportunities for professionals across sectors to get involved in projects that support expanding the role of art in education for young people across BC. Learn more.

Current opportunities:
  • IT professional to assess and identify solutions for upgrading our database from the current MS Access platform to something more streamlined, integrated and stable
  • Public Relations professional to build a PR campaign in line with our current strategic plan
  • Education professional to advise on expanding our education programming in the ArtStarts Gallery

Family Volunteers

Family Volunteers

Family Volunteering is a great way for your family to spend quality time together while also giving back to the community and providing kids with useful skills and experience. Family Volunteers provide exhibition tours to the public, assist with special events, lead gallery activities and help out with light administrative duties. Family Volunteering is open to parents, guardians, brother, sisters, extended family members and even mentors. We just require an adult 19 or over and a maximum of two kids over the age of 8. Family Volunteers commit to one three-hour Saturday shift per month.

Student Practicums

Student Practicums

ArtStarts offers a range of opportunities within our gallery and office space for students interested in gaining experience working in a non-profit organization or in the field of arts and education. Individuals, or institutions interested in placing their students, are invited to complete this online form.
