Canada Day Weekend at ArtStarts: Exploring Our Multicultural Family Cookbooks

Canada Day Weekend at ArtStarts: Exploring Our Multicultural Fam

Celebrate the Canada Day weekend at the ArtStarts Gallery and find creative inspiration in our country's culinary heritage. Through art-making and guided tours, kids and adults alike are invited to explore the diverse origins of flavours found in Canada’s family cookbooks.

HumanEYES is a project currently exhibited at the ArtStarts Gallery, in which students interviewed an elder in their lives, asking them to share family recipes that connect them with their community of origin. They cooked some of the recipes together and students created portraits resulting from this inquiry, now on display in the gallery.

Families are invited to visit the ArtStarts Gallery during the Canada Day weekend to share some of their own family recipes and to create beautiful paper-cut artwork inspired by the multicultural dishes that represent them.

The gallery will be open 10am to 4:30pm on Friday July 1, Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3, with interactive art-making activities ongoing throughout the day. Free guided tours will take place each day at 11am and 2pm. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. The ArtStarts Gallery is located at 808 Richards Street (at Robson) in downtown Vancouver.
