Fairy Tale Forts is a week-long celebration of Family Literacy Week, featuring storytelling and story-making. Join us to hear beautiful Canadian picture books read aloud in a magical fairy tale fort, and after, explore the stories deeper through hands-on activities, that will inspire stories of one's own.
Teachers, bring your class to one of our workshops! The sessions are free but make sure you register! Space is limited, so first come, first serve! Each workshop is approximately 90 minutes and can be adapted for Pre-K to Grade 4.
Grow a Night Garden - Wednesday, January 25
Discover how a dreary town is transformed by a gardener's skill into a place of beauty andhope in the award-winning The Night Gardener by Terry and Eric Fan. Then students will have a chance to create a miniature magical tissue-paper topiary of their own.
Decorate a Dream Door - Thursday, January 26
Step away from boredom through magical doors into worlds of imagination in Doors in the Air by David Weale and illustrated by Pierre Pratt. What door might you step through? Where would you go? Students will have a chance to design their own miniature door and imagine what might be inside.
Paint the Impossible - Friday, January 27
Imagine a night when toy trains come to life and sunflowers sway to a fiddler's tune. The possible becomes impossible in Imagine a Night. What else might happen in such a world? Students will add one more page to the book by creating a poem of their own and a surrealistic painting to illustrate their scenes.
