Call for Volunteers for ArtStarts Showcase

We are seeking volunteers to support our annual ArtStarts Showcase.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

ArtStarts in Schools is seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, community-minded individuals to assist with our annual Showcase event on Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

The ArtStarts Showcase is Western Canada's most important performing arts showcase and conference for arts programmers interested in booking performances for young audiences. Conceived over 20 years ago by a group of educators, the ArtStarts Showcase has evolved in response to the needs of young people's arts programming.

This year's event offers many opportunities to experience the arts, engage with delegates and artists, and explore how you can take action to activate learning for young people. Delegates can look forward to hearing an inspiring panel discussions address, watching sample performances by 28 showcasing artists, and participating in a variety of activities.

DELIVERABLES/DUTIES

Help with preparation of conference materials, packages and support on the set up of the different spaces (ArtStarts in Schools and Orpheum Annex).
Assist with multiple events: delegate registration table, catering, performances, student audiences, reception, contact room.
Provide support to Stage Manager and crew.
Provide support with Front of House in theatre.
Support with organization and in-take of delegates, artists and students.
Provide catering assistance with lunch and coffee service.

QUALIFICATIONS

Eager and motivated to learn and gain experience in event coordination.
Organized and able to handle time-sensitive tasks.
Comfortable working with large groups of people in a fast-paced environment.
Enthusiastic and interested in being an active member of the arts in BC.
Able to dedicate at least 4 hours/day between March 6-7, 2017.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

All volunteers will be provided lunch and snacks during the two event days and will be invited to our wrap-up dinner at ArtStarts in Schools.
We will also require a mandatory 1-hour orientation session on Sunday, March 5, 2017.
Volunteers' names will be included in our Annual Report.
Serving-it-Right certificate for some volunteer positions.
