Axé Capoeira will share a unique and interdisciplinary art form that has inspired thousands of children and adults. With its emphasis on active health, arts and cultural appreciation, it fills a much needed niche in the education of today's students. Capoeira teaches an appreciation for multiculturalism through music played on traditional Afro-Brazilian instruments, songs in Portuguese and Brazilian dance. Students will expend pent-up energy, to renew focus for the classroom, by participating in intensive physical activity through capoeira self-defense movements and physical conditioning. The workshops will emphasize a strong focus on building self confidence and anti-bullying. Fees are based on a full day of workshops (4 x 1 hour sessions). The group is also available for multi-day residencies.
The teachers were impressed with the overall presentation and how Marcus was able to teach and lead the students at a level that all the children were able to engage in and take something away. Agnes Krammer, Learning Resources Teacher, St James and St Ann's Elementary
