Isn't nature marvelous? Join the fun with The Gumboot Kids as they mindfully explore the wonders of nature. The Gumboot Kids is a stop motion animation, mixed media TV series that airs in 180 countries including the CBC in Canada. The series has received the the top honours in kid's TV including the Canadian Screen Awards, The Prix Jeunesse, The Japan Prize and the Kidscreen Awards. The Gumboot Kids' features music by Juno-award winning artist Jessie Farrell. The series has also been made into storybooks, a live music show, and a series of nature-based curriculums. Meet the creators of the Gumboot Kids, Tara Hungerford and Eric Hogan, as they take students through the filmmaking process, from story, to script, to shooting and editing your own videos. Hungerford and Hogan have written, directed and produced over 400 episode of television content for networks including CBC, Knowledge and TVO Kids. Students will go "behind-the-scenes" and learn how TV series is made, with a special emphasis on stop motion animation. Students will learn about the different roles that make up a film production team, from scriptwriter, to storyboard artist, cinematographer, animator, music composer and editor. The workshop includes a printable Bullet Journal with inspiration and prompts for young storytellers. A Q&A period will allow students to ask questions about filmmaking.

The workshop begins with story-time, with Hogan and Hungerford reading a Gumboot Kids storybook, a nature mystery that invites interaction and an exploration of science and nature themes. The workshop looks at different forms of storytelling before students are taken behind-the-scenes to look at how a television series is made, with a special focus on stop-motion animation. The workshop fee includes a collection of six, autographed hardcover Gumboot Kids storybooks for the classroom or school library, and supplemental learning activities that teachers and students can enjoy before or after the workshop.
