We’re just back from a wonderful presentation by Ballet Victoria to an audience made up of grades 4-7 from the Burnaby school district, at the Michael J. Fox Theatre. This presentation was the second in a series of four that is being presented by the Burnaby Young People’s Concert Series.
Dancers from Ballet Victoria
The ten dancers did a fabulous job of educating the young audience about what it takes to pursue dancing as a career and introducing them to some of the nuances of the art form. Education was balanced with entertainment though, as the costumed dancers took to the stage to perform excerpts from several of their productions including The Nutcracker, Puss in Boots and Little Red Riding Hood.
When asked if anyone in the audience had seen a ballet before, an estimated two-thirds of the room did not raise their hands - proof that indeed the Series is succeeding in its mission of exposing young audiences to art forms that they may not have the chance to experience otherwise, in a real theatre setting.
