Opportunity: Become an Infusion Teaching Artist!

ArtStarts in Schools invites applications from established artists with classroom residency experience interested in expanding their practice and talent in coaching, mentoring and demonstrating arts based practices in education.

Infusion: Arts in Education is a sustained professional learning program for teachers and artists, focused on arts integration in schools across BC. We are looking for artists to be champions of the arts and their importance in BC communities.

 

Applicants must live in a commutable distance to one the following BC communities:

  • Chemainus (St. Joseph's Elementary School)

  • Enderby (M.V. Beattie Elementary School)

  • Invermere (J.A. Laird Elementary School)

  • Smithers (Lake Kathlyn Elementary School)

  • Squamish (Mamquam Elementary School)

  • West Kelowna (George Pringle Elementary School)

 

Successful applicants will:

  • Participate in an exciting and valuable training intensive, developing a variety of skills that will assist them in facilitating meaningful learning experiences in arts integration for teachers.

  • Work with one of six Infusion Champion Schools in BC over a three-year period, facilitating engaging collaborative interactions with teachers that will result in the designing and planning of dynamic arts integrated classroom experiences.

  • Support teachers as they develop their con dence in demonstrating arts based activities and accessing resources to bring their lessons to life through the arts.

  • Celebrate their professional achievements at annual symposiums where they will be invited to present their work and experiences with educational professionals across the province.

  • Discover how becoming a specialist in facilitating arts integrated practices in education can transform the way students learn and the way teachers teach.

 

Timeline/ Commitment:

The program begins in September 2012. The contract is a three-year commitment, ending in June 2015. An overview of the timeline follows:

 

Year 1 September 2012-June 2013

  • Artist participates in a week long training intensive in Vancouver in week 3 or 4 of September.

  • Artist participates in 5 Days or equivalent of learning and planning interactions with teachers to determine the path and associated details and outcomes for their teacher team and Infusion Champion School's following year.

  • Artist responds to teacher related questions and connects with Arts Integration Manager to relate progress.

  • Artist engages online with the Community of Practice.

  • Artist participates in year 1 symposium activities in May.

 

Year 2 September 2013-June 2014

  • Artist works alongside their teacher team in the classroom demonstrating chosen arts integrated experiences. (Classroom as lab 15 days or equivalent, TBD with Infusion Champion School).

  • Artist responds to teacher related questions and connects with Arts Integration Manager to relate progress.

  • Artist engages online with the Community of Practice.

  • Artist participates in year 2 symposium activities in May.

 

Year 3 September 2014-June 2015

  • Artist principally observes as teachers lead arts integrated activities, providing support and feedback as required. Assists in tracking assessment strategies, contributes to dialogue on extension possibilities and celebrates learning with students and teachers.

  • Artist responds to teacher related questions and connects with Arts Integration Manager to relate progress.

  • Artist engages online with the Community of Practice.

  • Artist participates and presents at the year 3 symposium in Vancouver at ArtStarts.

 

Compensation:

$7,500 per year, for three years.

Related travel expenses are the responsibility of the artist. Subsidies for travel expenses to Vancouver for the Intensive and year 3 symposium will be considered on an individual basis.
