Celebrate and create with us! Join us to celebrate the opening of our new Common Ground exhibition at the ArtStarts Gallery and explore your own creativity in a hands-on weaving workshop.
On Sunday, November 1st, you're invited to explore the themes presented in the Common Ground exhibition and meet some of the students, teachers and artists who collaborated on the artwork on display. Squamish weaver Spelexílh Anjeanette Dawson will also be sharing her ancestral knowledge as she instructs us how to make a Wool Woven Quarter bag. This hands-on weaving workshop is ideal for young people aged 6 to 12 but all ages are welcome. Seasonal treats will be served!
WHEN: Sunday, November 1, 2015, 1–3pm
(Psst! Remember that November 1st is the day we “fall back” 1 hour for Daylight Saving Time!)

About the Exhibition
Common Ground features a variety of projects that present how students in schools across British Columbia explored their local landscape and its relationship with the people, animals and plants who live there. Dynamic environments and ecosystems became hubs for artistic investigations. Experiential learning provided opportunities for students to engage in diverse art forms such as drawing, weaving, felting, printmaking and embroidery. Students gained an enhanced understanding of native and invasive plant species and the animals that depend on them. They cultivated an appreciation of the relationships between natural resources and the traditions of local Aboriginal cultures that have maintained a strong connection to the land from ancestral times.
