For this year’s BC Family Day, ArtStarts held a day full of activities for the whole family.
It all started with yoga, where families used mats as boats and journeyed into the jungle, becoming dancing monkeys and roaring lions!
After everyone felt invigorated from yoga, they went up to the giant blanket fort for storytelling, where six stories about family diversity were explored.
Once storytelling was over it was time for popcorn and a movie! Families cuddled up in the fort to watch Fantastic Mr. Fox, a tale of a family of foxes living in a tree and their adventures of hunting for food and trying to survive as they were up against their human neighbors.
Throughout the day there were artmaking stations that encouraged togetherness, community and family identity. Families left their mark as they joined our Community Tree, and shared what home meant to them.
They had created souvenirs for the day by transforming their families into rocks and coming together with layering hand prints.
Family Day at ArtStarts encouraged a day of celebration for families to mingle with other families and to appreciate the uniqueness of their own pack!
We look forward to seeing you at our next event! Monster Theatre presents cherished classic The Little Prince at ArtStarts on Saturdays in Vancouver on Saturday, February 28, 2015 and at ArtStarts at River Market in New Westminster on Sunday, March 1, 2015.
