A farewell message from Interim Executive Director, Winnie Tam
After two years as Interim Executive Director, it is with a full heart that I will be moving on from ArtStarts after June 30th, as announced in February. I will be joining The Starfish Canada as their inaugural Executive Director.
I have felt deeply connected to and inspired by ArtStarts–the mission, the work we do and how we do it, the communities with which we work, and especially the people who make it all happen. With appreciation, I’ve had the privilege of working and learning alongside our Staff and Board of Directors to further integrate social justice and anti-oppression values into our organizational structures, policies, and practices.
Most significantly for me has been guiding the evolution of ArtStarts’ shared leadership ethos to a new co-leadership model that harnesses the power of diverse perspectives and strengths, decentralizes power and control, and builds more sustainable organizational and staff capacity.
With gratitude, I want to thank ArtStarts’ Staff, Board, and community partners–past and present–for the privilege of working together to centre the arts in young people’s learning and lives that nurture their creativity and imagination in building a better, more just world.
