Parents and children were captivated by the words of Haida storyteller, Roberta Kennedy (Kwii-Ge-Ii-Wans), who recently joined us for ArtStarts on Saturdays.
Wearing the striking red and black button blanket made by her great Naanii (great grandmother), Roberta shared stories of the mischievous raven, including the one about how he stole the light. She also shared traditional songs sung in her native Haida tongue, accompanied by the rhythmic beating of her hand-painted drum.
We’re so lucky to have had Roberta here with us all the way from Haida Gwaii! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of your culture with us!
ArtStarts on Saturdays takes place on the last Saturday of every month. Be sure to join us on March 26th, when TapCo's ensemble of talented young dancers brings it's cutting-edge rhythms (and extra pairs of tap shoes so you can try it out) to ArtStarts!
ArtStarts would like to thank Boeing for their generous support of the ArtStarts on Saturday series.
