This morning excited students from Vancouver's Lord Roberts Elementary visited the ArtStarts gallery to get a glimpse of where their artwork will soon be exhibited. Three classes will be working with artist Julian Lawrence throughout the fall to produce a comic book project reflecting their connections to the spirit of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Today's visit included a workshop where students flexed their artists' muscles by practicing blind contour drawing. First, students paired up to draw their classmates' faces. They were then given mere seconds to produce a portrait without looking down and without lifting their pencils from the paper. The activity produced some surprising and hilarious results!
ArtStarts looks forward to showcasing the students' comic-book projects in our January exhibition, Welcome to Our World. Stay tuned for news about the opening celebrations! And don't forget to check out our current exhibition, Creative Connections.
