The Many Strong Voices Programme (MSV) was created in 2005 to bring together indigenous peoples, community organizations, policy makers, NGOs, and researchers from the Arctic and Small Island Developing States. One of its key goals is to make sure the voices of people in these vulnerable regions are heard.
Portraits of Resilience, a project of the MSV, is led by Christine Germano, a BC-based artist who mentors indigenous youth on community art projects.Through captivating photographs and compelling essays, she helped high school students in four Arctic regions to show the effect of climate change on their communities to the outside world.
Many of these photographs and essays are now on display at the ArtStarts Gallery. We invite you to visit during our gallery hours to view these touching portraits of life in Arctic communities, as seen through the eyes of some of their youngest citizens.
