Welcome another new, friendly face to ArtStarts. Hannah Jarvis is one of our incredibly helpful and efficient Program Coordinator. Find out why she felt compelled to join our team.
1. Three words to best describe you:
Empathetic, Curious, (probably) Hungry
2. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I recently graduated from Simon Fraser University with a BA in Gender Sexuality and Women’s Studies with a Sociology minor. I am very passionate about justice and have a background in various anti-violence non-profits. I am also a creative jack-of-all-trades in that I enjoy many creative and artistic pursuits though I’m not particularly skilled in any of them. I played various instruments growing up, loved theatre performance, dance and have recently been exploring acrylic painting. My next pursuit will hopefully be ceramics- someone please give me a good pottery class recommendation.
3. What is your role at ArtStarts? What do you do in your role?
I am the Program Coordinator for Booking and Touring. I handle the day to day scheduling of artists touring schools in BC and take care of the paperwork. I also get to support the Book and Touring Manager with big projects like Showcase! Ask me about the Artist on Tour Directory and booking a performance for your school.
4. Where did art start for you?
Music was always very prominent in our household. We had this big window in the living room of our first home and it had a bench platform built into it. I remember being young (2 or 3 yrs old maybe) and using it like a stage to perform my favourite Aqua and Britney Spears songs.
5. What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Don’t cut your own bangs.
6. What is your favorite childhood memory?
Every other Saturday my Grandad and Grandma would come from Richmond to Squamish and do a pancake breakfast with us before coming to watch our soccer games. When it wasn’t soccer season we would go for walks around Alice Lake and I would put on impromptu one-person shows at the park’s amphitheatre such as “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Goldilocks”. My grandparents were the most enthusiastic two-person audience I could have ever ask for.
7. Anything else that you would like to share with us?
My favourite animals are pigs and raccoons and I can give you lots of recommendations on the best instagram accounts to follow that feature them.
