ArtStarts on Saturdays is back featuring Stéphanie Morin-Robert’s BLINDSIDE. On July 31, 2021, a one-eyed cancer survivor and MOTH storytelling champion, Stéphanie Morin-Robert, will recount her life as a feisty 7-year-old who wields her glass-eye as a weapon. With the help of her cat, a pair of sunglasses, and an undesirable superpower, she soon discovers that she has what it takes to face her tormenting bullies at her new school and comes to terms with her disability.

Stéphanie Morin-Robert is a one-eyed multi-award winning multidisciplinary artist who tours to festivals, theatres, and schools across the globe. As a graduate of Concordia’s Performance and Contemporary Dance program, a former summer camp activities director, and French immersion performance teacher for nursery and primary school, Stéphanie understands the importance of learning language and social skills through connection and play. All of these experiences have shaped her passion to perform for adn collaborate with the future generation.

Blindside is a powerful show that combines comedy, storytelling, puppetry, and multimedia. The piece features gentle physical movement, body puppets, and multimedia/live feed projection. There is limited soft music during the play. However there are some instances of slurping and retching noises during the performance. Additionally, there are some visual lighting effects that blink in quick succession. Please note that this performance discusses instances of cancer, bullying, loss of a pet, and will display an exposed eye socket. This show is 54 minutes long with no breaks and is rated 8+.
