Family Day Weekend with ArtStarts and MOA

We are thrilled to partner with the Museum of Anthropology to co-present engaging programming for the Family Day Weekend! We are offering events at both ArtStarts and at MOA over the long weekend.

The Magic of Making Cloth
Workshop with Rebecca Graham
Ongoing 10am to 1pm. Admission is free.

Participants in this workshop will receive free admission to MOA for one adult per group!

From the day we are born until the day we die we are all wrapped in cloth. Join us to discover the magic of cloth making!

Families are invited to join artist Rebecca Graham to play with spinning loose fibres into long, strong yarns, and weaving on a simple loom. Discover a variety of different tools and materials—you'll be amazed at the skill and ingenuity of our ancestors from all over the world!

Come to the workshop wearing your favourite piece of clothing. You can bring any piece of cloth that has important meaning to you.

While at the ArtStarts Gallery, explore a special MOA pop-up exhibition featuring imagery from the brand new textile exhibition Layers of Influence: Unfolding Cloth Across Cultures. Families will also have the opportunity to engage with Chilkat weavings and materials from the Tsimshian culture.

Capoeira Workshop at 11am
Free event for MOA Members.

Learn about the art of Capoeira with Axé Capoeira! An Afro-Brazilian art form, capoeira will give families an appreciation for multiculturalism through traditional song, live music and elements of Brazilian dance.

Axé Capoeira’s Viva Brazil at 1pm
Free with MOA admission.

This educational tapestry of Brazilian culture and history will inspire the whole family. Your pulse will be stimulated by live music, your eyes amazed by gravity-defying acrobats and your body moved by dance. Learn more.
